Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Lent (246)
Jesus had answered the Judeans: “My Father has been doing his job until now, and I have been being doing that work” For this reason, they were trying all the harder to get him executed–He not only broke the sabbath but he also calling God his very own father, making himself on a level with God. The response of Jesus to this was: “The truth is: The Child can’t do anything on his own—only what he notices the Father doing; for whatever he does, the Son will do likewise. The fact is—the Father loves the Child and makes him know everything that he himself does, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you may be surprised. Just as the Father raises the dead and gives life—that same way the Child gives Life to anyone he wishes. And the Father doesn’t judge anyone—He has given every judgment to the Child, so that everybody may honor the Child just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Child does not honor the Father who sent him. Here is the truth for you to hear: Anybody hears my word—and believes in the one who sent me—has permanent life and will not come to a guilty verdict but has already passed from death to Life. To tell you the truth: the time is coming—it’s already here—when dead people will hear the voice of the Child of God; people who hear it will live. The way the Father possesses life in himself—that’s how he has given to the Child the possession of life in himself. He has empowered him to make judgments, because he is This Human Child. Don’t be surprised: the hour is coming in which everybody in graves will hear his voice and will come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life; those who have done bad to the resurrection of condemnation. “I cannot do anything on my own; I judge as I hear, and my judgment is all right because I’m not wanting my way but the way of the one who sent me.” (John 5)
Jesus understands life– death and resurrection—in ways that are mysteriously “around the corner” or “over the horizon”; he is talking about a permanent, eternal life—within, around and through this physical one. He calls you from the dead.
God challenges you to accept this “non-natural” existence – it appears only when you have shuffled off your old life. Jesus refers to Himself as “This Human Child”, but he is talking about ANY and EVERY human child who hears Him—about you.
You awaken from the dead; hear his voice; begin to live a life of permanent values, not just passing events. You bypass judging and being judged; you share with God creating a new, better world; you do what our Creator wants, share everything God has been doing – including creating out of chaos the world in front of you. This is Wild Good News!
