The good news for the day January 8, 2017

The Baptism of the Lord (21)

Jesus came down from Galilee to John at the Jordan to undergo baptism by him. John tried to prevent Jesus: “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?” Jesus responded, “Allow it. This is how to do what is the right thing.” Then John allowed the baptism of Jesus. After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and without warning, the Other Realm opened for him; he saw the Creative Power of God settling—much like a dove on its nest—coming over him. A voice came from that realm, saying, “This is my Cherished Child, someone I am happy with.” (Matthew 3)

Here see the function of your baptism—that it opens heaven. To many it is a picture of a jagged, ragged rip in the sky overhead, with a little dove fluttering down out of it. That picture is just a picture—not the reality.

The reality is both harsher and stronger. In a real baptism, the individual drowns in the water and that person is now dead. A New Person arises. Where there was fear—now there is courage. Where there was rage—now there is forgiveness. Where there was guilt—now hope. Where there was ego, superiority, and control of others—now service, humility, and compassion. Where was greed and attacking—now is acceptance and brotherhood. All of that shows the Presence of the Spirit.

This outlook—this attitude—this view IS that Spirit which God has towards us. We change as that new Spirit settles onto us. We become—like God—friendly to one another, caring, seeing creation as gift and enjoying the challenges and pleasures as the rain and sun–His wordless love—becoming ours—becoming us. We are ALIVE! to God.

That is your baptism—a seed waiting to blossom and produce fruit into the world around you, waiting to reach real results as serenity, wisdom, and courage for the world to see—as it did Jesus. You are His Good News now.
