The good news for the day January 2, 2017
First Christmas weekday (204)
John the baptizer saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Here! Here comes the Lamb of God, someone who removes the sin of the world. Here is the one of I have talked about earlier when I said ’Someone is coming after me who ranks ahead of me because he has a higher existent than me.’ I did not know who it was, but the reason why I came baptizing with water was that he might be made known to Israel.” John made things clearer when he said, “I saw the Creative Power of God come down—the way a dove might swoop down from the sky—and remain upon him. I did not realize who it was, but the Source which sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘On the one you see the Spirit come down and remain—that is the one who will baptize with the Different Power of creating.’ Now I have seen and I have announced that he is the Son of God.” (John 1)
Let us begin the new year as John the baptizer does—identifying the children of God around us—respecting one another, honoring the saints and sinners who come into your life, expecting and hoping for peace, mutual kindness and mutual enrichment. And believing that the Lord Jesus is coming in this person at this moment, with truth and mercy—even if the individual does not realize what is going on.
This flash of recognition on the part of John is up to you—to see and know the Presence of the living Jesus in your life. He comes—each Child of God—as someone worthy of respect and honor. Unknown—He becomes known. Your task is to see—to acknowledge—and to bear witness—to let everyone know this Presence in the persons around. Not as stress and strain, as though you are ruled by anxiety—the timing is up to God, in the end—but like John, this individual who looked for the Child of God, the lamb of innocence and the forgiveness of sin—you live with the outlook that happiness lies in a world of expectation. Disappointments and even death comes to the truth-seer, the John the Baptizer, the Jesus-lamb, but in the meantime—to live deliberately, so, so aware of the unfolding grace of God each moment. The Spirit of God is now in THIS world creating.
