The good news for the day November 19, 2016
Saturday of the Thirty-Third Week in Ordinary Time (502)
Jesus says: “The people born simply and not reborn marry and marry more (as when a man must take his brother’s widow as a second wife). people judged fit to enter and be part of the coming age and resurrection of the dead—these neither marry nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die; they are like divine messengers; and they are children of God–they are the humans who will rise. That the dead will rise—even Moses made known in the scripture about the burning bush, when Moses addressed the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob as The One In Charge; He is not a God of the dead ones, but of living people—to him all are alive.” Some of the smarter ones responded: “Professor, you have answered well.” And they no longer were brave enough to ask him anything (Luke 20)
God is timeless. Our reality is disconnected—in some way—from time. Eternity—for the mind of Jesus—means permanence, since “eternity” is a Greek idea foreign to the Semitic world of the Bible.
Hard to understand—but once you get it, so much else makes sense! God our Father knows us yesterday and tomorrow. He knows the permanent attitude and outlook of caring—and its absence. Our father’s will is our growth—and that development—that constant conversation and repentance is what counts. Not our goodness now, nor our sin now-but the whole soul-life-long spirit of love inside that grows. He wants us to become more and more a member of his family-a new-born—always a new-born child of God, at peace and accepting of His world, forgiving and being forgiven, constantly being delivered from evil.
The Good News is this wonder-full life –as tender as a spring blossom, and alive as a kitten, and permanent as a mountain. You are rooted in love that transcends marriage, family—and time!!!
