The good news for the day November 9, 2016

Wednesday of the Thirty-First Week in Ordinary Time (493)

Asked by leading religious figures—Pharisees—as to when the Kingdom of God would come, Jesus provided this reply, “The coming of the “Realm of what is Right” cannot be detected; no one will announce, ‘Hey, look, here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’ Take note—the Realm of what is Right with God exists already among you.” Then to his disciples, he expanded: “The time will come when you will just ache to see one of those when the Human Being is present, but you will not see it. There will be those people who will say to you, ‘Look, there he is!’ or ‘Look, here he is!’ Don’t be fooled; do not go running off in pursuit. Just as lightning flashes illuminating the sky from one end to the other, so will the Human Being be seen in His day. First, though, he has to suffer much and be rejected by this generation. (Luke 17)

The Son of Man means more than Jesus-man—

Includes all humans (in their faith)—who choose

The way He went—feel more rejection than

Mere gesture, civil disrespect—the views

Of human difference—No. His fate meant

That if you follow him to that bright realm

Before the thunder, see light and get sent

Away from pressures that so overwhelm—

You will find the realm that’s seeking you—

The light will flash and here it is—the peace

And texture of a life that knows it’s New

And Peace, and Joy, and Wise—and gives a lease

That is beyond sheer earth—a standing in

That quiet inward-outward sphere we win.
