The good news for the day July 21

Thursday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time (398)

His students approached Jesus, “Why do you talk to the public in poetic stories?” He answered them, “Because grasping the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but not to them. To anyone who has, more will be given and that person will be enriched; but from anyone who does not have—even what is had will be taken away. This is why I speak this way in public, because they look but do not see and hear but don’t listen or understand. Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says: You shall hear all right but not get it; you shall look all right but never see. Closed is the heart of this group, they will barely hear with their ears, they have shut their eyes—so they won’t see with their eyes and hear with their ears and get it with their heart—be converted and I heal them. “But how well off are YOUR eyes—they see—and your ears—they hear. I am telling the truth, many prophets and good people wanted to see what you see but did not see it, to hear what you hear but did not hear it.” (Matthew 12)

It is hard to convey this enlightenment, this eye-opening development that can come as such a surprise. You are going along, and one day, it hits you. You SEE. Not the Jesus of History—But what He wants you to see: that….

God is Good—our Father. People of a different IQ, color, age, sex, education, or culture—we are all brothers and sisters—that’s what your eyes open and see. These lie beyond externals of religion, culture, or education. You gain insight. You grasp His poems and stories; they are about you—about truth beyond words, pictures and prejudices, denials and avoidances. You see. You hear. You were asleep. Now you’re awake. The world as you have known it has come to an end—now is the ultimate—final—judgment as you enter authentic humility—the acceptance of truth. You are the poor, the griever, the meek, the “lower class.” It is all Good.

God comes to you. Oh, you work at it, but this is grace, the gift—to see the radiant love gifting you—making you exist.
